Work Experience

Cast offers work experience throughout the academic year. We had a very successful Work Experience week in February 2022 for young people aged 14-18, where the young people took part in work tasks from the different departments of the theatre. They even threw a party at the end of the week, because they enjoyed it so much!

For Summer 2022 we are unfortunately unable to run our work experience week as the theatre is jam-packed with activity for The Doncastrian Chalk Circle. However, we are planning on running a Careers day in October, our work experience week in February and another careers day in July 2022.

Note: We regret we are unable to offer Work Experience outside of these times.

If you're interested in getting involved with Cast and want to learn theatre-making skills, Cast Youth Theatre might be of interest to you or visit our website to a look through some our specialist workshops.

For more information on the work experience programme, please contact our Participation Producer at

We will prioritise applications from young people from Doncaster. This means most open access places are offered to people who live in this borough.

We also reserve some places for Young People from backgrounds currently underrepresented in our industry or who may experience barriers to Work Experience in creative industries. As such we are actively seeking candidates who identify as being from Global majority, Disabled and/or low-income backgrounds, regardless of whether they are based in Doncaster.

How to apply

We will start recruiting for our February Backstage work week in September 2022. The application consists of an online application form which should take no longer than 5 minutes to fill out. There are options to fill in the form in writing or upload a video response. The form will be available in September 2022.

If you cannot apply online or have access needs, you can pop into the theatre or phone our Box Office on 01302 303 959. We may then also contact your reference before offering you a place on the week.

If you require any additional support in completing our online form or feel you have a barrier to applying, please do not hesitate to contact Annabel at

How do we select?

We aim to meet everybody who fits the criteria for Backstage Work Week, either in person or over Zoom. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee a place for everybody we meet. We aim to select those who we feel will benefit the most from the experience. We will be looking for a balanced mix of young people from different backgrounds. Our decision is not based on prior experience or knowledge, the week is open to anybody who fulfils the above criteria.
